Medical
Review Panel and Truth in Advertising bills become law;
Volunteer
lawyers needed to chair Medical Review Panels
Two key pieces of legislation affecting
long-term care providers - Medical Review Panels and Truth in Advertising -
that was passed during the 2017 General Assembly and signed by Governor Matt
Bevin officially become law today. Thank you to all members who answered the
call to reach out on a grassroots level for all these years! To
finally see these bills become law is a successful testament to the hard work
and dedication of everyone affiliated with KAHCF.
There are a
couple of things the Association needs to ensure the success of
these laws. We are asking each of our members to reach out to their attorneys
to volunteer to chair the Medical Review Panels. It is our understanding
that a lot of plaintiff attorneys in rural areas (especially Eastern Kentucky) have
signed up for the panels - therefore we need to spread the word and encourage
defense attorneys to participate as well. The Medical Review Panel website
will be up soon, but for now you can request the application by emailing Deputy
General Counsel Molly Lewis at molly.lewis@ky.gov or mrp@ky.gov
Also please send Bruce Linder any attack
advertisements that are in newspapers to review they are adhering to the new
law and hold law firms responsible for false and misleading ads.
If you have any questions, please contact Bruce Linder at blinder@kahcf.org or call the Association at
