Description
This training created with the goal of bringing together Kentucky long term care professionals and state surveyors in a way that promotes interaction, growth, and understanding. The presenters include: Samantha L. Windsor, Assistant Director and State Training Coordinator, Office of Inspector General, Division of Health Care and long term care expert Diana Waugh RN, BSN. The seminar will cover the following topics: Review of the F323 regulation, Falls Management, Assessment data, Care Planning components for managing falls, and ways to manage falls in your facility.
Learning Objectives
I. Review of the F323 Regulation
The seminar will review the Accidents and Supervision regulation. The intent of this requirement is to ensure that the facility provides an environment that is free as possible from accident hazards and provides supervision and assistive devices where and when applicable to manage both avoidable and unavoidable accidents.
II. Fall Management
Discuss the components of the updated guidelines for Ftag 323, describe a person-centered falls mitigation program and its relationship to the guidelines. Identify the facility’s responsibility to develop and utilize practices to provide a safe resident environment, describe the process that will demonstrate facility responsibility coupled with resident wishes that may lead to negative outcomes.
III. Assessment Data
Identify the cultural assessment data that must be captured and utilized in falls mitigation program. Identify assessment questions that must be included when working with a resident who has fallen.
IV. Care Planning Components
This session will discuss the care plan components necessary for a successful social model falls mitigation program, which can be solidly supported through the entire falls mitigation process, from assessment through care planning and back to repeat assessment.
V. Look at Ways to Manage Falls
Demonstrate the falls mitigation process from the perspective of both the provider and the surveyor or putting it all together. How to demonstrate the fact that facility staff are informed long term care experts.

KAHCF Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be made in writing and may be faxed or mailed to KAHCF. Cancellations by phone will not be accepted. Cancellations received no later than September 2nd will receive a full refund. Cancellations received between September 3rd and September 9th will receive a refund of 1/2. Registrants who do not attend or who do not complete the full seminar will not receive a refund unless prior written notice is given to the KAHCF office.
