Description:

The Medicare Accreditation requirement for providing and billing reimbursable durable medical equipment supplies is in full swing.  The next phase of change occurs on October 1, 2009

Providers, including Skilled Nursing Facilities will no longer be reimbursed when acquiring DMERC supplies from a non-accredited supplier.

Skilled Nursing Facilities (themselves) will no longer be able to bill DMERC supplies to Medicare Part B even if the facility has a DMERC provider number, unless the skilled nursing facilities itself is Medicare Accredited.  Furthermore, facilities will not be able to contract with billing companies which have not achieved the required Medicare Accreditation.

This workshop will review the purpose and goals of Medicare Accreditation, including deadlines and requirements, especially for October 1, 2009.  The workshop will also discuss how the upcoming changes affect Skilled Nursing Facilities, whether or not they currently have DMERC provider numbers.  Discussion will include the impact on suppliers and the proposal to remove Skilled Nursing Facilities from the competitive bidding process.  Finally, the workshop will discuss options for Skilled Nursing Facilities to continue to be reimbursed for their medical supplies, including wound care, ostomy, enteral nutrition, catheters, trachs, wheel chairs, support systems or any other items listed under Medicare Part B DMERC supplies.
