Quarterly meeting: Thursday, October 8, 2009

Cost: $25 members, $40 non-members
Members also pay a facility fee of $30 every two years. Any staff member from the paying facility receives the member rate. Are you dues due? Ask at the next meeting.
 
8:30 – 9:00am - Registration and Welcome
 
9:00 –10:00am - Cooking up Care plans – Facilitated by Charlaine Reynolds, ADC, and Dama Maynard, ADC
A much requested hands-on session. Increasingly, state surveyors are looking for very individualized care plans to include activity interventions as part of falls, behaviors and pain care plans, in addition to stand-alone activity care plans. Come prepared to bring examples of problems – and strengths – of your residents. Groups will share best practices.
 
10:00 – 10:15am - Break

10:15-11:15am - The Art of Being a Professional Activity Director – Dama Maynard, ADC, Charlaine Reynolds, ADC, and LaQuida Sowell, ADC
Dama is our state contact for the National Association of Activity Professionals. Learn the benefits of becoming a member. Charlaine and Dama will facilitate conversation about professionalism in the workplace, how to make yourself a more valuable member of your team, and yes, how to make the case for a raise!

11:15-11:30am - Business Meeting

11:30am – 12:15pm - Lunch

12:15 – 1:15pm - “You Scratch My Back, and I’ll Scratch Yours” – Cindy Proffitt, ADC
 Creative ways to get staff involved in activities. Cindy will bring supplies for us to make a craft in this session and directions to make a candy filled pumpkin. Please bring any holiday crafts ideas you wish to share and bring a glue gun.
 
1:15-2:15pm - What your local Alzheimer’s Association has to offer you, your staff, and families. Elissa Freeman-Carr, Director of Education, Alzheimer’s Association
The Association offers a wide array of services, educational and training opportunities for staff and families wanting to learn more about dementia. They will even come to your facility to do the training. Learn about the lending library, training, the “Best Friends” approach to activities and how to start a support group – a social services hot topic!

2:15-2:30pm – Break

2:30 – 3:30pm – Fundraising – Sharing Ideas- Role playing to learn how to “ask for donations”. There will be a holiday basket to raise funds for our group.

3:30-4:30pm - Resident Council Issues – Dama Maynard, ADC
Wonder if you are conducting your council in the right manner? What does state surveyors look for as they review minutes? How to improve communication between those attending the council meetings and heads of departments.
 
Please bring names and phone numbers for entertainers you would recommend and holiday ideas.The Kentucky Association of Health Care Professionals will hold their annual convention at the Galt House downtown November 10-12, 2009. More info at www.kahcf.org

Make plans to visit us at the trade booth. …We will have a lot of door prizes!!. The Central District plans to host a hospitality suite. More info to come!
